Complete or reopen a job, and what blocks you
The exact order of checks before a job can be completed, what each failure looks like, and how to recover from a failed attempt.
“The complete button does nothing” is the most common report from this screen, and there are four distinct causes with different symptoms. This is the order the app checks them.
1. The button is disabled before you click
If business settings have not loaded, Complete is disabled with no explanation shown. A reload usually clears it. This is also the state you land in after a failed attempt — see the last section.
2. Open tickets block first
If any ticket attached to the job is unfinished, you get a toast reading Please complete all tasks before completing the job. and the page scrolls to the ticket section. Nothing is highlighted in red at this stage.
This gate runs before the checklist is even examined, so a job with both problems reports only the tickets. Clear those, press Complete again, and the checklist errors appear on the second attempt rather than the first.
3. Required checklist answers block silently
The checklist gate produces no toast and no message. The page scrolls to the first unanswered required task and the labels of invalid tasks turn red. If you press Complete and the page merely jumps, that is what happened — look for red labels rather than a notification.
Checklist tasks that already have a report ticket raised against them are exempt from this check.
4. The confirmation dialog
For cleans this dialog always appears. It shows your business’s completion message, and for time-tracked jobs either the elapsed working time or This job was not clocked in, so no working time was recorded.
Completed by is required — pick the person who did the work. If nobody is assigned, the confirm button stays disabled with a message asking you to assign somebody first, which you cannot do from this page.
Recovering from a failed completion
If the save fails you get a Update failed toast, and the Complete button stays disabled from that point on. Reload the page before trying again — the button will not recover on its own.
One more reason to slow down at this step: the checklist is submitted without waiting for your most recent keystrokes to be saved, and saving is debounced. Answers typed in the final half-second before you press Complete can be missed. Click away from the last field before completing.
Reopening
Reopen Job appears on completed and cancelled jobs, and also on in-progress ones, which the label does not suggest. The confirmation reads: Reopen this job? It will return to Pending. Completion photos and signatures are preserved.
After reopening, the checklist becomes editable again and previous answers are still there. This is the correct route for fixing a job somebody closed in error — the sub-type dropdown and the checklist are both locked while a job sits in a closed status, so there is no way to edit in place.
There is no cancel on this page
The button where cancel used to sit now reads Back and only returns you to the jobs list. It does not cancel anything. Jobs that are cancelled reached that state by another route.
The elapsed working time in the completion dialog cannot be trusted when you and the property are in different timezones. Times are stored as the property’s wall clock, but the timer compares that against your own clock — so an admin viewing from a zone three hours ahead of the unit sees roughly three hours added to every clock-in. Viewing from behind the unit clamps the figure and reports less than a minute. Read the check-in and check-out records when the duration matters.
